Half Iron Distance race description
The Belly of the Beast takes place in gorgeous Hunterdon County New Jersey. The swim is in pristine Round Valley reservoir and is likely to be the nicest body of water you have ever swam in. The bike ride contains approximately 30 miles of the JerseyMan Half Iron course and travels along the Delaware River. The run course is an AWESOME two loop course that runs within feet of the reservoir so you will be ensured some great views to take your mind off the pain!
Swim: Featuring a 1.2 mile one loop swim in the main reservoir portion of Round Valley reservoir. Round Valley is undoubtedly one of the nicest bodies of water in New Jersey and will provide optimal swim conditions. The course will be clearly marked and well supported. The water temperature is expected to be 68-73 degrees and will be wetsuit legal.

Bike: The bike will be a scenic one loop 56 mile race throughout Hunterdon County, NJ. The bike ride contains the core 30 miles of the JerseyMan Half Iron course including the flat fast section along the Delaware River and the historic covered bridge. While this bike route includes many of the highlights of the JerseyMan bike course, make no mistake this course is a course all its own. There are some decent climbs but there are long flat sections too. It is a beautiful course that will keep your interest while challenging you along the way. There will be 2 water stations on the bike with an assortment of recovery drinks, gels and water. They will be located at approx. mile 20 and mile 40.

Run: The run will be 13.1 miles two loop course. This run course is AWESOME. The course takes place in the park and along the surrounding roads. This run will provide great views throughout that will help take your mind off things! One mile of each loop will be on a packed trail that will have you running within inches of the waters edge. There will be 11 water/aid stations approximately every 1 to 1.5 miles with an assortment of gatorade, water and gels.

Sprint distance triathlon
Swim: Featuring a .5 mile one loop swim in the main reservoir portion of Round Valley reservoir. Round Valley is undoubtedly one of the nicest bodies of water in New Jersey and will provide optimal swim conditions. The course will be clearly marked and well supported. The water temperature is expected to be 70-73 degrees and will be wetsuit legal.

Bike: The bike will be 17.6 miles through the beautiful farmlands of Hunterdon County. The bike will be one loop on a nice variety of terrain. This route highlights the beauty of Hunterdon County, NJ. The bike course offers a variety of terrain with some hills mixed in. Riders will enjoy this bike course.

Run: The run will be a 5K (3.1 miles) will be a mix of flats and some grades on well paved asphalt roads and gravel trails. There will be two water/aid stations on the course with an assortment of gatorade drinks, gels and water.

There will be two transition areas. The first will be the swim to bike transition located in the South Parking lot. The bike to run will be located in the bus parking lot next to the main beach area. This setup allows us to utilize the main reservoir for the swim portion which will provide athletes with an unbelievable swim!
The finish line will be right off the beach making for a memorable finish with some great photo opportunities!!!

Wave 5: 8:35 Men 40+, Clydesdale
Wave 6: 8:40 All women, relays, athena's, first timers

Please Note that parking is limited so please car pool if possible.
POST RACE AWARD CEREMONY AND GREAT POST RACE PARTY. BRING THE WHOLE FAMILY!!!
There will be great food including hamburgers, hot dogs, perogies, and much more.
A moon bounce (weather permitting), DJ and much more!!!

TIMING & RESULTS:
Lin-Mark Computer Sports, Inc.
All participants, both events, will be assigned a WinningTime transponder chip ankle band. You are financially responsible for the return on the band at the finish line area, even if you DNF. However, there will several volunteers to assist you with chip removal shortly after you cross the finish line. But if for some reason you are forced to DNF please return your chip to any volunteer and they will ensure it is returned to the timing officials.
Results posted prior to the awards ceremony and on Lin-Mark's web site event day. You will also be able to print out your own results cards.
Refund Policy:
Athletes may request a partial deferral by submitting an email request prior to September 1st 2009. Approved requests will receive a credit of 50% of your race entry fee that can be applied toward another NJMSA race. You can use this credit until the end of the following race season. After September 1st, 2009 all entries are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Event is rain or shine. No refunds will be issued in the event of the race being modified or canceled due to any act of nature. Although we will make any and all attempts to ensure this does not happen.
